What Platelet-Rich Plasma Does

Blood is drawn, placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components, and then injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles. Platelets carry growth factors including PDGF, VEGF, and EGF that signal the follicle to shift from a dormant resting phase into an active growth phase. The follicle also thickens over time with repeated treatments, which means each individual hair grows in with more volume.

The Procedure

A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm in the same way as a standard blood draw. The volume depends on your treatment plan, but typically falls between 20 and 60 milliliters.

Processing Your Sample

Your blood sample is placed in a centrifuge and spun at high speed to separate the platelet-rich plasma from red blood cells and other components. The resulting PRP concentrate is drawn into syringes for injection.

SCALP INJECTION

PRP is injected into the scalp at the level of the hair follicle using a fine needle. Injections are placed across the area of thinning or loss, typically covering the entire zone of concern rather than spot-treating individual follicles.

Nutrafol Supplement

Every patient in our hair restoration program receives a three-month supply of Nutrafol, a clinical-grade hair growth supplement backed by published clinical trials. Nutrafol addresses the biochemical drivers of hair thinning at the root level, including stress hormones, DHT, and nutritional deficiencies, which makes it a meaningful complement to PRP rather than a replacement for it.

Custom Hair Serums

Each patient receives a personalized serum formulation based on their presenting concerns. Our serum options include: Formula 82M (minoxidil 8%) for male-pattern thinning; Formula 82F (minoxidil 4% with retinoic acid) for female-pattern thinning; Formula 82D (minoxidil 6% with dutasteride) for patients with significant DHT-driven loss. Serums are used nightly and are included in your package.

Scalp Health Treatment

Hair Science shampoo is included to support scalp health, with no conditioner included. Patients at our Hobbs location receive a Jet Peel scalp treatment to remove product buildup and prepare the scalp for better absorption. Patients at our Albuquerque location receive a HydraFacial scalp treatment for the same purpose.

Amplify Your Results

For patients who want to accelerate results or who have not responded as expected to PRP alone, we offer exosome therapy as an add-on. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles derived from stem cells that carry signaling proteins, growth factors, and RNA that instruct cells to regenerate. When applied to the scalp following PRP, they amplify the regenerative signal and can produce faster and more robust results than PRP alone. Exosome therapy is available at both locations.

CANDIDACY

Are You a Candidate for PRP?

PRP hair restoration works best for patients in the early to mid stages of hair thinning or loss. The treatment reactivates follicles that are dormant but still viable, which means it is most effective when there is still a meaningful follicle population to work with. If the follicle is gone entirely, PRP cannot restore it.

Factors that may affect candidacy include active scalp conditions such as psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis, platelet dysfunction or blood disorders, recent use of blood thinners or NSAIDs, and very advanced hair loss where the follicle population has been significantly depleted.

PRP hair restoration produces gradual results. Most patients see a reduction in shedding first, followed by slower new growth, followed by visible thickening of existing hair. The timeline for visible results is typically three to six months after beginning treatment, and the full benefit of a protocol takes up to a year to fully express.

Hair loss is a progressive condition. PRP slows it and can reverse some of the thinning, but it does not stop the underlying cause. Most patients who respond well return for a maintenance session once or twice a year to preserve the gains.
