How Neuromodulators Work
The Science Behind Botox, Dysport, and Letybo
Botox, Dysport, and Letybo are all purified forms of botulinum toxin type A. When injected in small, controlled doses into a specific muscle, they temporarily block the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. Acetylcholine is the chemical messenger that tells a muscle to contract. When that signal is interrupted, the muscle relaxes. When the muscle relaxes, the overlying skin smooths.
This is a targeted, reversible process. The toxin affects only the muscle where it is placed. Surrounding tissue and sensation remain intact. Over the following three to four months, your body gradually metabolizes the product, nerve signaling resumes, and muscle activity returns. That predictable timeline is part of what makes neuromodulators practical. You know what to expect, and you can refine your treatment plan over time as you learn how your body responds to each product.
“All neuromodulator treatments at Younique Medical Spa are performed by certified, licensed providers. Every session begins with a facial assessment and a conversation about your goals, your injectable history, and what you can realistically expect.”
How the Three Products Differ
All three products produce the same fundamental outcome: temporary muscle relaxation. The differences are in formulation, molecular structure, and how they behave once they are in the tissue.
Botox™ has the longest clinical track record of any neuromodulator. Its protein complex is relatively large, which means it tends to stay tightly localized at the injection site. That precision makes Botox a strong choice in areas where your injector needs exact control over which fibers are affected, such as around the eyes, the brow, and the lip border. Onset typically begins around day three to five.
Dysport® uses a smaller protein complex, which allows it to spread more broadly from the point of injection. In larger, flatter treatment areas like the forehead, that diffusion pattern often produces a very smooth, even result. Dysport also has a reputation for faster onset. Many patients notice early movement restriction within a day or two of treatment.
Letybo® is the newest of the three. It uses a proprietary purification process that produces a high-purity, low-protein-load formulation. Early clinical data and real-world provider experience suggest that Letybo may offer the fastest onset of the three, with some patients reporting visible results within 24 to 48 hours. Its duration appears comparable to Botox and Dysport based on available data.
Most Established
Botox™
onabotulinumtoxinA
The longest clinical track record of any neuromodulator. Tightly localized at the injection site — ideal for precision areas like the eyes, brow, and lip border. Onset typically begins around day three to five.
Smooth Diffusion
Dysport®
abobotulinumtoxinA
Smaller protein complex spreads more broadly — exceptional for larger, flatter areas like the forehead. For patients who want to see something happening quickly, Dysport often delivers on that expectation.
Fastest Onset
Letybo®
letibotulinumtoxinA
FDA-cleared with a proprietary purification process. Some patients report visible results within 24 to 48 hours. Duration comparable to Botox and Dysport. Worth discussing if you value rapid onset.
Where We Treat
Treatment Areas: Face, Jaw, Neck, and Beyond
Our providers treat the full face with neuromodulators. Each area involves different muscles, different injection depths, and different dosing considerations. Below is an overview of every zone we treat and what each one addresses.
Forehead Lines
Horizontal forehead lines form from repeated contraction of the frontalis muscle. Over time, the skin creases in the same places and those lines become etched in even at rest. Neuromodulator injections reduce the strength of the frontalis contraction just enough to smooth the lines while preserving your ability to express naturally. Dosing here requires careful calibration.
Glabella (Frown Lines)
The vertical lines between the brows, sometimes called the eleven lines, are produced by the corrugator supercilii and procerus muscles. These muscles pull the brows inward and downward. The glabella is one of the most commonly treated areas and tends to respond well to all three products.
Crow's Feet
The fine lines radiating from the outer corners of the eyes are produced by the orbicularis oculi, the circular muscle that contracts when you squint or smile. Treatment softens these lines without eliminating the natural crinkle that comes with a genuine expression.
Bunny Lines
These are the diagonal creases that appear across the bridge of the nose when you scrunch your face, caused by the nasalis muscle. A small amount of product placed along the nasal bridge smooths them effectively.
Masseters
The masseter is the large muscle on each side of the jaw responsible for chewing and clenching. Patients who grind or clench often find meaningful relief from jaw tension and headaches. Aesthetically, masseter treatment narrows the lower face and creates a more tapered jawline.
Jawline and Jowls
Neuromodulators placed along the jawline soften the downward pull of the platysma and the muscles that contribute to early jowling. This technique creates a cleaner jaw contour and works best in patients with mild to moderate laxity.
Platysmal Bands
The vertical cords that become visible in the neck, particularly when the muscles are tensed, are the platysmal bands. Injecting along these bands relaxes the muscle and softens their prominence.
Chin
A dimpled or pebbled texture on the chin is caused by overactivity of the mentalis muscle. A few precisely placed units smooth the surface and reduce that uneven appearance.
Lip Flip
A lip flip involves placing a small dose of neuromodulator along the upper lip border to relax the orbicularis oris just enough that the upper lip rolls gently outward, increasing visible lip volume without any filler.
DAO Correction
The depressor anguli oris (DAO) is the muscle responsible for pulling the corners of the mouth downward. A small dose at each corner of the mouth lifts the downturn and creates a more neutral, pleasant resting position.
Gummy Smile
When the upper lip elevates too high during a full smile, it exposes a disproportionate amount of gum tissue, caused by hyperactivity of the levator labii superioris alaeque nasi. Neuromodulator placed near the nose relaxes that upward pull.
Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)
For patients who experience excessive sweating, injections placed in the palms of the hands or the underarms can significantly reduce sweat production. Most patients notice a dramatic improvement within one to two weeks, with results lasting several months.
After Your Appointment
What to Expect After Your Appointment
Neuromodulators do not take effect immediately. The product needs time to bind to the nerve receptors and block acetylcholine release. How quickly that happens depends on the product used and on your individual physiology.
Letybo tends to show the earliest visible changes, with some patients noticing initial results within 24 to 48 hours. Dysport typically follows, with many patients reporting early movement restriction within one to three days. Botox generally begins to show visible change around day three to five.
Regardless of which neuromodulator is used, the final, settled result takes approximately two weeks to fully develop. We require all patients to wait a full 14 days before scheduling a touch-up, so that any refinements are based on your true result.
Onset Timeline
Letybo®
24–48 hours
Some patients notice initial results within the first two days. Early clinical data suggest Letybo may offer the fastest onset of the three products available.
Dysport®
1–3 days
Many patients report early movement restriction within one to three days. Dysport’s diffusion pattern often shows early results in larger, flatter treatment areas.
Botox™
3–5 days
Botox generally begins to show visible change around day three to five. Its localized precision means results are gradual and well-controlled.
All Products
14 days
Full, settled result. We require all patients to wait two weeks before scheduling any touch-up appointment.
How Long Results Last
Most patients enjoy their results for three to four months. Duration depends on your metabolism, the treatment area, the dose administered, and how frequently you have been treated. Patients who maintain a consistent treatment schedule often find that their results begin to last longer over time.
Our Approach
Why Injector Expertise Matters
Neuromodulators are the most commonly performed aesthetic treatment in the country. They are also among the most technique-dependent. The same product, placed by two different injectors, can produce very different outcomes. Anatomy varies from face to face.
Our injectors at Younique Medical Spa assess every face individually. There is no standard template. Before any injection, your provider evaluates your muscle movement, your skin quality, your proportions, and your aesthetic preferences.
Having three neuromodulators on hand gives us flexibility that most practices do not offer. Your injector can select Botox for areas that demand tight precision, Dysport for zones where smooth diffusion produces a better result, or Letybo when rapid onset is a priority.
Every injector on our team is certified and licensed. We stay current with advanced training in facial anatomy, injection techniques, and product science. Patients in Hobbs and Albuquerque trust us with their faces. We take that seriously.

Common Questions
Neuromodulators: Common Patient Questions
Your injector will recommend the product best suited to your treatment areas and goals. Botox offers the tightest placement control and has the longest track record. Dysport diffuses more broadly, which works well in larger areas like the forehead. Letybo is the newest option and may appeal to patients who want rapid onset.
Letybo (letibotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-cleared neuromodulator that uses a proprietary purification process to achieve a high-purity, low-protein-load formulation. It works through the same mechanism as Botox and Dysport: blocking acetylcholine to temporarily relax targeted muscles.
Early clinical experience and patient reports suggest that Letybo may produce visible results within 24 to 48 hours in some patients. Dysport also tends to show early changes within one to three days, while Botox typically begins around day three to five.
Most appointments take 15 to 30 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated. The injections themselves are quick. The majority of your time is spent on assessment and discussion, especially during your first visit.
Neuromodulator injections use a very fine-gauge needle. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief pinch at each injection point. The discomfort is mild and short-lived.
The product has not reached its full effect until approximately 14 days after injection, regardless of which neuromodulator was used. Adjusting before that window closes risks over-correction.
The most common side effects are mild bruising, redness, or swelling at the injection site. These typically resolve within hours to a couple of days. Serious side effects are rare when injections are performed by a trained, experienced provider.
We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours and staying upright for at least four hours. After that first day, you can resume all normal activity.
We discuss pricing during your consultation rather than publishing rates online. The cost depends on the areas treated, the product selected, the units required, and your individual goals. Prestige Points apply and CareCredit financing is accepted.
Many of our patients are first-time recipients. Your initial appointment includes a thorough consultation where we assess your facial anatomy, discuss realistic expectations, and walk you through the entire process.
We do not perform the rhinoplasty-style Botox technique intended to reshape the nose. While this approach has gained visibility on social media, the results are inconsistent and we do not feel it meets our standard of care.
